At Avalon Grand, People Are the Heart of Progress
Aligning with Rwanda's Vision for Social Justice and Decent Work
Each year, International Labour Day, otherwise called Labour Day or Workers’ Day in a few nations and frequently alluded to as May Day, is a festival of workers that honours the individuals who drive industries, shape economies, and inspire change.
Global themes usually revolve around "Social Justice and Decent Work for All," which resonates deeply with Avalon Grand's commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.
Championing Decent Work in Rwanda
Rwanda's labour landscape reflects both progress and ongoing challenges. According to the 2023 Labour Force Survey by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), the working age population (16 years and above) was 8 million, with 59.3% participating in the labour force. However, the unemployment rate stood at 17.2%, highlighting the need for continued efforts to create sustainable employment opportunities.
Avalon Grand is committed to contributing to this national goal by ensuring fair employment practices, providing continuous growth opportunities, and maintaining safe and supportive work environments.
Upholding Rwanda's Labour Laws
Rwanda's labour regulations guide our practices. Law N° 66/2018 emphasises the importance of a conducive working environment and prohibits forced labour. Article 4 of this law states: "Every employer shall ensure a working environment that is safe and healthy for the employee."
Furthermore, the 2023 amendment to the labour law reinforces the need for transparency and fairness in employment contracts, aligning with our commitment to ethical business practices.
Supporting Rwanda's Supply Chain and Beauty FMCG Industries
Rwanda's supply chain industry has seen significant growth, with total trade reaching $2.1 million in the third quarter of 2023, marking a 4.34% increase over the same period in 2022, according to the National Institute of Statistics Rwanda.
The beauty and personal care sector, which we also operate, is expected to grow between 2023 and 2029, driven by increasing consumer demand and a focus on quality products. As a player, we at Avalon Grand actively collaborate with local suppliers and partners in these industries, ensuring that our business practices contribute to Rwanda's broader economic development.
Our 2025 Labour Day Commitment
For this year’s Labour Day, at Avalon Grand, we continue to reaffirm our dedication to social justice and providing a decent workforce for our employees. By aligning our operations with national goals and legal frameworks, we aim to create a workplace where everyone feels valued, empowered, and part of Rwanda's ongoing progress.
